The Practice of Leadership
Day by Day

As a leader, you want effective and proven strategies, methods and tools to meet the challenges you face every day. It can be difficult to find exactly what you need. Do a search on amazon.com for books on leadership and you'll get 40,319 results!

So much has been written about the the "big picture" of leadership – the importance of Vision and Mission and Strategic Thinking. Good stuff, that. You can't be very effective leading people if you don't know where you want to take them!

But as the saying goes, "We stumble over pebbles, never over mountains." As your leadership coach, I will help you to spot - and gracefully step over - those pebbles, so you won't stumble on your way to achieving your vision.

And by the way, my clients will tell you that what I bring to the table is great stuff without the fluff.

I've learned much from working closely with leaders in scores of organizations (large, small, public, private) for over two decades. I'm grounded in the best practices of successful leaders and have robust, hands-on experience making things happen in real organizations.

Your leadership skills will flourish more quickly, I believe, if you work with mentors who are leadership specialists rather than generalists. Find those who really know how to do what you want to do. While I love to study all aspects of leadership, I go deeper in my own practice on a few, high leverage aspects.

These days, I am particularly passionate about these leadership issues:
  • How you can make better decisions by knowing whether, how and when to involve your team,

  • How you can lean into your discomfort to successfully navigate a difficult conversation, and

  • How you can create a positive, accelerated transition into a new role (for leaders about to take charge of a team, department or even the whole organization).
I engage with you one-on-one, with the entire senior leadership team, and with you and your own team.
